The bogs on Islay are particularly nice this year with many fluffy white dots swaying in the wind. May and June are likely the best months to visit Islay and this year has been extraordinary so far. Spring has brought us many dry, very calm and sunny days and it’s perhaps due to the weather that the Cottongrass, or Bog Cotton, is flowering in abundance. The official name for this lovely flower is Eriophorum angustifolium. Taking a photo of these fluffy beauties can be somewhat of a challenge as they’re only a few inches tall. Last week I was just lucky when I found a patch near a beach which created a lovely background for which became one of my favourite Islay Photos, Cottongrass near an Islay Beach
